Soul Snacks is a passion project with purpose.
In 2019 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Big shock! I’m a very curious person by nature and dived into research on methods that would help me heal. What started out as scribbled reminders to eat certain foods, do certain exercises and practice certain meditations, evolved into complex spider diagrams hung on my kitchen wall.
I found that doing these practices gave me a sense of control over my own healing at a time when you feel you have none. For me the combination of traditional treatment and a more holistic approach was key to getting through a very difficult time.
Being a graphic designer and artist, I wanted to share this information with people who needed it most. And it was of upmost importance that it be delivered in a simple, fun and compassionate way. And so Soul Snacks was born. The design is informed by the psychotherapeutic effects of art and colour therapy.
Thankfully the psycho-oncology team in Beaumont agreed, and we collaborated for nearly 3 years on Soul Snacks. While I took on the role of creative director and designer, two amazing psychologists In Beaumont-St. Lukes, wrote the copy and dived deeper into the research. So everything in the pack is based on personal experience and most importantly, is all science backed.
The pack consists of A5 cards (An A-Z of healing practices, 6 inspirational “Wild Cards”, and a booklet containing an abundance of resources including meditations, exercises, poetry, TED talks, books, websites and documentaries.
The purpose of Soul Snacks is to provide cancer patients with useful information and help them avoid the often contradictory and misleading information available to vulnerable patients
Packs are currently being handed out to cancer patients in Beaumont Hospital and we have an active online presence @soulsnackscards on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and online at the link below
